Schedule: Selectee will work 80 hours in a two week period. this will fluctuate some but the core schedule is Tuesday week one through Tuesday week two (8 ten hour days) with the next six days off.

Overview:
This advertisement is for a fire effects monitor with the USDA Forest Service. The selected applicant will use GPS units, maps and aerial/satellite photos to navigate to and re-measure existing fire monitoring plots as well as establishing new plots. They will assess surface fuel loading using line intercept transects, measure aspen regeneration, determine % effective ground cover, measure tree metrics (diameter, species, height, etc...) and determine forest composition in order to assist the US Forest Service in assessing forest health and treatment effectiveness. Data will be recorded and archived using paper forms and ExamsPC monitoring software. Activities include travel by foot (hiking up to 8 miles/day over Utah’s rugged terrain), truck and UTV to collect/record vegetation and landscape data; entering data; and presenting project information and results in organized formats. Camping in remote work sites for up to 8 days will be necessary. On occasion they may overnight in primitive Forest Service Bunk housing (no/limited cell phone coverage, no internet access). Incumbent will receive valuable experience and training which will make them more marketable for future employment with the U.S. Forest Service. Housing will be provided.
